A week in Bali wants exactly two bases — jungle, then coast — and the order matters: Ubud's early-morning culture suits fresh arrival energy, and the beach chapter lands better as the wind-down. One transfer day is the price; two distinct honeymoon chapters are the payoff. Here's the seven-day shape, built around the island's golden rule: everything famous is magical at 7 a.m. and mobbed by 10.
Land in the jungle
Base in Ubud — a private pool villa in the ricefields, which in Bali costs what a chain-hotel room costs elsewhere. Day one is pool, massage and jet-lag surrender. Day two starts early: the Campuhan Ridge walk or Tegalalang terraces at 7, sacred-spring temple mid-morning, then villa hours through the heat and dinner in Ubud's genuinely excellent restaurant scene.
The private-driver day
Bali's classic move: a private car and driver (modest cost, transformative freedom) for a loop you design — water temples, the Gunung Kawi valley shrines, a coffee-plantation stop, waterfalls if you like a swim. Tell the driver your ending: back for golden hour at the villa pool, or push to a sunset temple. This is the day group-bus tourists see through glass and you see at your own pace.
Slow day, on purpose
The mid-trip empty day is the difference between a honeymoon and a tour. Sleep in. Breakfast floats in the pool if you booked that kind of villa. A spa afternoon — Ubud's massage economy is world-class at street-food prices — a long dinner, nothing else. The itinerary is protecting this day; let it.
Transfer to the coast
Change chapters: Uluwatu for clifftop drama and surf-sunset temples, or Seminyak–Canggu for beach clubs and restaurants. The drive is 1.5–2.5 hours; leave mid-morning, arrive for a first swim by afternoon. Sunset at Uluwatu temple with the kecak fire dance, or a beach-club front row — either way, the trip's second act opens loudly.
The coast, at ease
Beach mornings, pool afternoons, one splurge dinner on a cliff or on the sand. Day six can absorb an activity — a surf lesson together is the sleeper hit of Bali honeymoons — but the assignment now is decompression before the flight home.
